Funeral Set for Denison Architect

Denison - Billy Duff Ball, 61-year-old Denison architect, died New Year's Day in a local hospital after a 4-month battle with cancer.
Funeral was Saturday morning in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Purcell, pasotr, and Rev. Edward S. Bayless, a former pastor, officiating.  Burial was in Cedarlawn Cemetery, Bratcher Funeral Home in charge.
Ball was an independent AIA architect who had his office with the Plyler Construction Co.  He frequently assisted Plyler on its commercial building design work.
Among the buildings in the area where Ball was the architect are the Denison Central Fire Station, the Denison Senior Citizens Center, additions to the National Guard Armories in both Denison and Sherman, and the Katy Insurance office building in Denison which he had just completed at the time of his death.
Ball was noted for his work with young people.  He was a Sunday School teacher at the First Presbyterian Church at the time of his death where he had taught continuously for 35 years.
In 1979 Ball was chairman of the Grayson County  Easter Seal drive.  He was a member of of the Grayson County Crippled Children's Board of Directors and the Women's Crisis board.
Ball was born November 5, 1905 in Denison, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.T. Ball.  He graduated from Denison High School in 1943 and was married December 22, 1944 to Lola Fitzgerald.  He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church.
Ball was a member of the Billie Mosse Masonic Lodge, the Denison Commandry No. 24, the Knight Templar, Hella Temple, Elks Lodge and the North Texas Shrine Club.  Professionally he was an AIA member and a member of the NCARB.
Golf was his hobby and Ball could requently be found eith at the Denison Rod and Gun Club links or at Woodlawn Country Club.
Surviors include his wife; son, Danny Ball of Hamden, Connecticutl; daughter, Mrs. Pam Wray of Carrollton; brother, Ted Ball of Wimberly; and 9 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jamie Gilliam, Pete Fisher, Clifton Jacobs; Ken Griffith; Steve Bryant; Dennis Baker, Charles Douglas and Jake Duke.




Lola Fitzgerald Ball passed away January 15, 2008 at her home in Denison.  She was born July 5, 1925 adnd lived her entire life in Denison.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Duff Ball; two sisters, Geraldine Cornelius and Ozelle Duke; one brother, Garland Fitzgerald; and her parents, Leona and Clyde Fitzgerald.
She is survived by a sister, Jo Ellen Harmon of Ft. Worth; a daughter, Pam Wray of Carrolton; and a son, Danny Ball and his wife, Janie, from San Antonio; and a very special daughter-like friend, Julia Richerson of Carrolton.
The great joys of her life were her family and dear friends and her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, Duff, Luke, Sarah, Jason, Hillary, Kelly, Ellen and Logan.  Her blessings continued with the births of her great-grandchildren, Drew, David Duff, Vincent Luke, Isabell Grace, Jacob, Tosh, Dillon and Noah.
She lived the all-American dream by marrying her high school sweetheart, Billy Duff Ball, December 22, 1944.  Her dream continued as she and Duff raised their two children in the admonition of the church with stront Christian values.  Lola and her husband devoted many years of service to the First Presbyterian Chruch, where they both were elders.
She chaired many committees in her days at Woodlawn Country Club and volunteer work at her church, at Texoma Medical Center, and Reba's Rehab.
