Betty Melton Adkins, 95, of Wichita Falls, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017.
Betty was born in Winston, Missouri, daughter of Dennis and Hallie Campbell.  At the age of 6, her family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri.  At the age of 12, they moved to Jefferson City, Missouri, where she attended Junior and Senior High Schools.
She married James Melton, Sr. in 1942.  They had 4 children.  They moved to Denison, Texas in 1962, where her husband was plant manager for Levi Strauss & Co.  Betty was employed with the City of Denison for 21 and a half years. She started work as a bookkeeper, then advanced to Municipal Court Clerk and Civil Service Director for firemen and police officers.
She married Merle Adkins in 1976 in the Chapel of Waples Methodist Church.  She had been a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club.  She was active in charity drives, collecting for March of Dimes, Leukemia, American Heart Association and Muscular Dystrophy.   She was a member of the Paralegals Club in Sherman, Texas, and a member of the Elks' Lodge in Durant, Oklahoma, where she held the office of secretary for 3 years.  She was also a lifetime member of the Sherman VFW Ladies' Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Melton, Sr. and Roy Merle Adkins; brother, Gene Campbell; sister, Jane Campbell; granddaughters, Penny  Willis and Jennifer Whitehead; and great-grandson, Trey Perrin.
She is survived by her 4 children, 3 step-children, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; as well as a number of beloved step-grandchildren.
