On Saturday May 1, 2021 the doors and windows of Heaven opened and Dennis Eldon Hill was welcomed into his heavenly home by his parents, Clarence Eldon and Josie Inell; his brother, Ronnie Joe; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and  a host of family who preceded him in passing from this life.
Dennis was born July 3, 1945 in rural Grayson county, near Van Alstyne, Texas.  His parents moved to Sherman in his early childhood and he graduated from Sherman High School in 1963.  He attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1971. He was influenced and started his journey in the funeral service at Waldo Funeral Home as an ambulance driver, and after being involved with the various aspects of funeral service and influenced by a family friend, it was clear he felt the call to be in the service of helping others in their time of need.  In over 50 years of funeral service he spent time working with some of the best in his field.  His experience included Flesher Funeral Home of Van Alstyne, Waldo Funeral Home of Sherman, Horton Barrett Funeral Home of Sherman, Turrentine Jackson & Morrow Funeral Home of Allen, Dannel Funeral Home of Sherman and Fisher Funeral Home of Denison.  Dennis was raised with a strong Christian background in the First Church of the Nazarene in Sherman, and his later church memberships included the Denison Church of the Nazarene and Trinity United Methodist Church in Denison.
On November 25, 1966 he married Rosie Ann Dickerson.  To this union, God blessed Dennis and Ann with 3 wonderful children, Richard Eldon Hill, Karen Sue Hill Hodgdon and Brandon Dennis Hill.
Dennis had a variety of hobbies and loves.  He loved riding his antique John Deere tractors, collecting clocks, gardening, and taking his grandchildren fishing for stripers and crappie on Lake Texoma.  Dennis was an avid sports fan and for many years he was a New York Yankees fan watching Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, but when the Texas Rangers were organized they became his favorite team.
Growing up in Sherman he played Little League and American Legion Baseball with his brother, while their father coached in various roles.  His sport of choice in high school was basketball, and he continued to play after high school at Bethan Nazarene College, once again, alongside his brother, Ron.  His mother and father were both athletes during their high school years at Van Alstyne High School and passed their competitive nature to both of their children and grandchildren.  Sports and competition were an important aspect of Dennis' legacy, in sports and life.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ida Grider and Clarence Myers Hill; Winnie Jones and Homer Jack Smith, mother and father, brother, Ronnie Joe Hill; sister-in-law, Karen Jones Hill; and niece Jeri Sue Hill; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dennis is survived by his wife; son, Richard Hill and wife, Mendy; daughter, Karen Hill Hodgdon and husband, Lindsay, of Denison; and Brandon Hill and wife, Cassidy, of Hinton, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Calven Dennis Hill; John Ross Hill; Jack Ryan Hill; Kelsey Ann Wyche Hodgdon; Casdence Paige Hill; and Kobie Wayne Hodgdon of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Nancy Groves Hill of Olathe, Kansas; nephew, Brian Matthew Hill and wife, Kristi, of Olathe, Kansas; Suzanne Renee Hill Gillard and husband, Danny, of Girard, Kansas; aunts, Norma Smith Bennett of Lubbock; and Dorothy McConnell Smith Paviola of Sherman; along with numerous cousins.
A Celebration of LIfe service was held Wednesday afternoon, May 5, 2021 at Fisher Funeral Chapel.  The family had interment at Cannon Cemetery, near Van Alstyne, Texas preceding the Celebration of Life service.  A long-time family friend, Rev. David G. Roland was the service officiant.
Donations may be made in memory of Dennis Hill to Home Hospice or to Trinity United Methodist Church in care of the Children's Food Pantry. - - - Fisher Funeral Home
