Rites Set Sunday
For Eighth Traffic Victim of County

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Cannon Methodist Church for Estel Stephens, 31, of Dallas, who was fatally injured Thursday about 12:20 a.m. when his car overturned and he was thrown to the highway near Munson Lake, one mile north of Denison.

The Rev. Jimmy Duckworth of Van Alstyne will conduct the service. Burial will be in Cannon Cemetery, directed by Fox-Flesher Funeral home of Van Alstyne.

Mr. Stephens is the county's eighth traffic victim for this year. He died at a Denison hospital about 5:10 a.m. Friday.

Mr. Stephens, who was employed as a postal clerk at Love Field in Dallas was driving south on Highway 75 when he lost control of his car and it swerved from the highway, according to Highway Patrolman Jesse Reed. The car rolled over and skidded along the highway for a distance of 30 feet from where the victim's body was found, the officer said.

He was born in Texas and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Stephens of Van Alstyne.

Survivors include his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Frances Massey of Grand Prairie and Miss Janice Stephens of Van Alstyne; two brothers, L.D. Stephens of Lubbock and John Kenneth Stephens of Van Alstyne; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Stephens of Van Alstyne.
