Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Orr Carter was born January 14, 1932 to the union of Mr. and Mrs. William K. Orr in Van Alstyne, Texas.  She received her formal education in the public schools of her native city.

Her religious activities began at a very early age, when she professed a hope in Christ and united with the C.M.E. Church at Van Alstyne.  She later joined the Fellowship Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Sammie Davis, Jr.

In 1956 she was united in holy wedlock to Mr. James Earl Carter and to that union three children were born.

Her demise came Sunday, October 21, 1979 at one of the local hospitals.

Survivors are her mother, Mrs. Ella M. Orr; one daughter, Cheryl Renee Carter; two sons, Gregory Earl and Byron Odell Carter; five sisters, Katherine and Gerline Orr, Sarah J. Etchison, Helen C. Davis and Lillian Janice Mitchell; five brothers, Robinson, Darrell, Cleo, James Douglas and Franklin D. Orr; three grandchildren, Shermika, Gregory Earl Jr. and Shenika LaKay Carter, other relatives and a host of friends.
