Melissa L. Orr
23 November 1904 - 16 September 1993

There is nothing more beautiful than a rainbow, but it takes both rain and sunshine to make a rainbow. If life is to be rounded and many-colored like the rainbow, both joy and sorrow must come to it.

Hugh Orr, the son of the late Samantha Bowen and Mancil Orr departed this life, Monday, February 24, 1992 at Wilson N. Jones Hospital, Sherman.  He was born on a farm east of Van Alstyne near Sister Grove Creek, 91 years ago, June 22, 1900.  He grew up there with his late brother, Garland Orr, and nephew, Kam Bowen.  He married Melissa Conley in Whitewright, Texas, November 18, 1928 and they remained together for 64 years, "Until death do thee part."  They raised one son, Clyde Hugh Orr.
Hugh joined Samaria Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until his death.  He served on the Deacon Board and was the Chairman for many years.  He loved his church and worked hard to keep it a viable part of the community.  He was a mason for over 50 years and an active worker in the North Texas Baptist Layman Association.  He was always a friend to young preachers.  Hugh loved people and those with whom he met always left with some homespun philosophy.
