MRS. WOOD J. McMILLIN
Death claimed another of the pioneer citizens of Denison, when Mrs. Susan McMillin, wife of Wood J. McMillin, breathed her last at the family home Tuesday morning at 8:25.
Mrs. McMillin had been in feeble health for some time but was confined to her bed only about 2 weeks, having contracted a deep cold which developed into bronchitis and formed an ulcer on the lung; this, complicated with heart trouble, with which she had suffered for years, and her advanced age, were more than her enfeebled health could stand.
Deceased was born in Frankford, Kentucky, April 30, 1842, and removed with her parents to Independence, Missouri, where she was married to Wood J. McMillin, May 28, 1865 and here 4 of their 7 sons were born.  Mr. and Mrs. McMillin came to Denison in 1875.  In 1896 they removed to Red River where Mr. McMillin was a gate keeper at the toll bridge.  Here Mrs. McMillin contracted typhoid fever, which weakened her otherwise very strong constitution and from the effects if which she never fully recovered.   In 1904 they moved back to the city, living at 231 W. Morton street.
Mrs. McMillin was one of the noblest of women, a faithful  wife and a devoted mother.  She held the esteem of all who knew her and numbered her friends by her acquaintances.  A devout Catholic and always ready to help the poor and unfortunate.  She was a lifelong friend of St. Patrick's Altar Society and in her younger days was identified with  every work connected with the church.  Faithful in all the obligations of religion she died as she had lived with the fullest confidence and faith.  Attended by Rev. Fr. Hutcheson in her last hours, she received all the consolations and sacraments with which the Catholic church fortifies and strengthens her dying children.
All her immediate family were assembled around her bed when the end came save one son who was not able to reach his mother's bedside, being held up behind a wreck.
Mrs. McMillin leaves besides her aged husband, 5 sons, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 5 grandchildren, 2 nieces and 3 npehews.  Two sons, James and Troy W. died in 1903, and those surviving are as follows: John L., Newton D., and Lee B. of Denison; Wood of Leadville, Colorado; and George of Salida, Colorado; Mrs. C.E. Head of San Diego, California; Mr. M.E. Merrill of Oceanside, California; Mrs. Clara Overman of Fresno, California; and Mrs. Leulla Morris of Denison; sisters, and Mr. Louis B. Deering of Marietta, California; brother, Mrs. Carrie Lebrecht of this city; Mrs. Lillie Anderson of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; nieces; Messrs. Lambert and James Morris and Mr. P.D. Pollard of Denison; nephews, and the following grandchildren: Little Missie Pauline, Dorothy and Evelyn, Master Murray and an infant.
When it became evident that Mrs. McMillin could not live, her 2 sons, Wood and George, were immediately notified and at once hastened to their mother's bedside.  Wood arrived about 3 hours before his mother's death, and was recognized by her, but George was less fortunate and was unable to reach her in time even for the funeral services, which were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from St. Patrick's Church, being conducted by Rev. Fr. Campbell.  The funeral cortege was very large, and many sorrowing friends followed the remains to the last resting place in Calvary Cemetery.  May she rest in peace.
