Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at 9:30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church by Rev. Martin Mulchay, for John Edward Williams, 75, retired post office employee.  Interment was in Calvary cemetery with Bratcher-Moore in charge of arrangements.  A rosary service was held at the funeral home Wednesday evening.
Mr. Williams, familiarly known to all Denisonians as Johnnie Williams, was born in Colbert, December 23, 1874, son of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Williams.  He came to Denison with his parents while still an infant.  He received his schooling here at St. Patrick's Parochial School.  He was married September 11, 1901 to Miss Elizabeth McCarthy.
He entered the local post office in November 1869 [sic] and was employed there 51 years before his retirement in 1940.  He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, Knights of Columbus, Elks and Eagles.  He was a member of the Denison Rifles during the Spanish-American war.
Survivors are his widow, 630 W. Day; 2 sons, Bernard Williams of San Antonio and John Edward Williams, Jr. of Wichita Falls; 3 daughters, Sister Elizabeth of Our Lady of Victory of Ft. Worth; Sister Ellen, of St. Anne's in Beaumont; and Miss Josephine Williams of Denison; and 5 grandchildren.

Editor's Note: Mr. Williams began working for the postal service in 1889, not 1869, as noted in his obituary.  Subtract 51 years from his retirement date of 1940 and the date of his employment begins in 1889.  Also the Denison Post Office did not exist in 1869; the town wasn't founded until 1872
