DEATH COMES TO MRS. DOWD AT HOME SUDDENLY
Mrs. Katherine Dowd, 75, who made her home at 610 Owing street, died Saturday night at 11 o'clock, her death coming suddenly at the home which she had made her place of abode for the past forty-nine years.
Funeral arrangements are pending the arrival of a son, Clyde, from New York.  She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church and services will be under the auspices of that body with interment at Calvary.
Mrs. Dowd was born in Dublin, Ireland, November 4, 1860, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Edward Norris. She was married in June 1878 at Moberly, Missouri.
Mrs. Dowd came to the United States when a girl of seven years, shortly after the death of her mother in Dublin, coming here with an aunt and locating in Moberly.
With her husband she moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where Mr. Dowd was connected with the Nickel Plate railroad as an engineer.  He was killed in a railroad accident on September 7, 1883 at  Sennett, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Dowd has made her home here since and has reared and educated her family of four sons and one daughter, making her permanent residence at 610 West Owings for the past forty-nine years.
She was past president of the Altar Society of St. Patrick's church, was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary to B. and L.E. of the North end of which she received a gold medal for a membership lasting over forty years.
Mrs. Dowd was in her usual health on retiring Sunday night at her usual hour.  Shortly after retiring she was discovered dead by a daughter who called to her and received no response.
Surviving are four sons, Messrs. Morris, Harry and Elmer Dowd of this city and Claude F. of New York City.  A daughter, Miss Florence Dowd, lives in Denison
