July 8, 1887 Taken from B. C. Murray Mr. Murray was born in Mich. Jan'y 14, 1837. Parents were old residents of Michigan, settling in Michigan before Michigan was made a state. Was born in a village. The schools were very good for those days, public schools and academies. Mr. Murray received an academic education. Commenced business for self in 1860. Newspaper business near El Paso, remained there until July 1862. Oct. 1862 organized a military company and went through the war, remaining until the end. Was through Arkansas and Louisiana. After the war went to San Antonio and taught shorthand, then to Kansas in the newspaper business, then returned to Austin in 1872 and edited the Austin Statesman, sold out in 1872 and removed to Denison. On Feb'y 22 issued the Morning News and edited it up to Spring 1887. He then continued the job printing business until April 1883 when he started the Sunday Gazetteer, which he now is the owner of. Was married in San Antonio in 1867 to Miss Swicky [Swisher] of Arkansas, but raised in Texas. Has family of 1 boy and 4 girls. H. H.
