Ruby King Bennett, 100, of Sherman died peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2011, at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ. Her son and daughter-in-law were by her side. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. in Akers Cemetery with Rev. Albert Fisher officiating.

Ruby was born in Norman, Oklahoma, on June 5, 1911, to W.A. and Emma Elizabeth (Lewis) King. She was educated in the public schools of Pleasant Home in Grayson County. She married Henry F. Bennett on November 1, 1939, in Sherman.
He preceded her in death on July 14, 1988. She was a housewife and also worked 15 years as a salesclerk for McLellan's Variety Store in Sherman. She was a member of Crutchfield Heights Baptist Church. Ruby was the oldest surviving member of the old Central Baptist Church, now Grayson Bible Baptist Church. 
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Roy Bennett; a sister, Lucy Wooten; and 3 brothers Walter King, Dubois King and Ivan King.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Bennett and wife Lorene; 7 grandchildren: Michael and Adam Bennett, Larry Hopkins, Leroy Hopkins, Debbie Magourick, Dawn Mott, Terri Thomason; and thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Opal Kennedy, 104 years, of Modesto, California; and Juanita Schmidt, 89 years, of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; and a special pal, ex-daughter-in-law Shirley Bennett.
