Services were held Tuesday at the Tom Bean Baptist Church for Doss B. Starnes, 71, retired water commissioner of Tom Bean, who died Sunday at a Sherman hospital.  Services were conducted by Rev. Birdie Jones of the Tom Bean First Baptist Church, with burial at Akers Cemetery.
Mr. Starnes was born at Lancaster, Tennessee, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Starnes.  He was married to the former Lela Mae Aiken on November 21, 1924 at Whitesboro and had been a Grayson County resident since 1907.  He was water commissioner of Tom Bean from 1962 until his retirement in 1967, and he was a member of the Tom Bean First Baptist Church.
Survivors are his widow; sons, John F. Starnes of Howe; Donald K. Starnes of Whitewright; and Howard L. Starnes of Tom Bean; brothers, Dayton Starnes of Wichita Falls and John R. Starnes of Greenville; sisters, Mrs. Susan Caldwell of Duncan, Oklahoma; Mrs. Lola Judkins of Sherman; Mrs. Ovi McClellan of Lubbock; and Miss Jo Anna Starnes of Van Alstyne; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Harold Hardin, Jack Yowell, Von Ray Montgomery, Troy Adams, Johnny Gentry and Don Carpenter.
