Tuesday, October 8, 1940 pg.1 DEATH ROLL Mrs. Mary Akers, 83, resident of Denison several years, died at 5 a.m. Monday at Sunland, California, following an illness of 3 years. Funeral arrangements, to be made here with Short-Murray directing, are incomplete, pending information from relatives. Mrs. Akers resided at 417 E. Sears. She was born April 16, 1857 [sic] as daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson at Somerset, Kentucky, but was reared and educated at Weatherford, Texas and was married there to Solomon Akers November 11, 1878. The couple came to Denison in 1918 and Mr. Akers died here January 15, 1936. Mrs. Akers was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are 2 sons, Carl of Denison and Robert of Elmont, California; 4 daughters, Mrs. Maggie Allen of Elmong; Mrs. Lila Settle of Sunland; Mrs. Lettie Reed of Corpus Christi; one brother, Jim Johnson of Graham, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
