DORCHESTER - Funeral services for Kenneth Steven Crain will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21 in the First Baptist Church of Dorchester. Rev. Jerry Scott and Rev. Bobby Layman will officiate with Gary Bennett, Jeff Murdock, Jimmy Vincent, Billy Cox, Bob Dooley, and Trae Richburg serving as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Akers Cemetery with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Mr. Crain passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at his home in Dorchester after a seven-year battle with cancer.

Steve was born on Sept. 17, 1948 in Weed, Calif. He graduated high school in Scottsbluff, Neb., and went to work at Libby Owens Ford in 1968. He was transferred to Sherman in 1979. On April 23, at his first day at LOF in Sherman, Steve met Carol Bennett who was also working her first day there. On May 24, 1980 they were married in Lake Tahoe, Calif. Steve worked as a production coordinator at LOF until the plant closed and he retired in 2002. Steve raised cattle and enjoyed ranching during retirement. Steve had an outgoing, friendly nature and he had never met a stranger. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and especially proud grandfather. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Steve is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carol of Dorchester; son, Matthew Crain of Dorchester; daughter, Stephanie Crain Craven of Dorchester; three grandchildren, Chase Sellers Crain and Ryleigh Craven, both of Dorchester, and Taryn Crain of Kingwood; mother, Delores Steinbrecher of Scottsbluff, Neb.; three sisters, Cheryle Hefner and husband Wes of Dodge City, Kan., Deborah Crain of Kansas City, Mo., and Lisa Keller and husband Kevin of Mitchell, Neb.; one brother, Greg Steinbrecher of Kansas City, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2 -4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20 at Waldo Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dorchester at 11831 FM 902, Dorchester, TX 75459 or Home Hospice of Grayson County at 505 W. Center, Sherman, TX 75090.
