MANGLED BY CARS
Monday evening between 8 and 9 o'clock a young man giving the name of Paul G. Kroschel fell from an out-going freight train on the Missouri, Kansas & Texas near the Austin avenus viaduct and as a result both legs were badly mangled. Korschel was found a short time after the accident by the switchmen on a passing yard engine. He was brought up to the freight house and then over to the Beck hotel and restaurant where medical aid was summoned. Dr. Acheson and Dr. Birch responded to the call, and, on examination it was evident that one of the legs would have to be amputated immediately but some hope was entertained that the other might possibly be saved. The left leg was taken off at the knee joint. Tuesday the right leg was taken off about half way between the knee and the ankle joint. The young man states that his father is a book-seller at Brieg, Germany. The young man is direct from Chicago and states that he, in company with a partner, were en route to Galveston. He boarded the train in the upper yard and in attempting to go from one car to another lost his footing and hand hold and fell between the cars. He is 20 to 21 years of age, well educated and does not have the bearing of an ordinary bum. Tuesday evening he was carried to Sherman and delivered to the county authorities for care and attention.
