45 Years Ago
(Thursday, August 3, 1922)
Frank Smith, Negro, aged 12,  was drowned last Thursday in the Floyd Everheart pool north of town.
A birthday party was given on July 26 at the home of Joe Reeves, south of town, for W.C. (Uncle Billy) Reeves, 78.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Pierce Wednesday.
Julian Connally, Negro, died Sunday night.
Cull Reeves is opening a cleaning and pressing parlor in the rear of the Gordon Clothing Co. Store.

(Thursday, August 4, 1927)
Denison and Sherman were officially married Monday night before an audience of thousand.
J.M. Wright and Bryant King were elected members of the Board of Directors of the FIrst National Bank Tuesday night.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilson Tuesday.
Robert Doss has a broken arm as the result of being knocked down and run over by a car on the Bonham street last Thursday.
Mrs. Betty Sloan died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Annie Wilson, at Pilot Grove on July 27.

Luther Gordon will open a grocery store here next week.
Jerome May has bought the 70-acre farm, known as the Henry Phillips farm, northwest of town.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lester Short of Big Springs on August 4.  Lester is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Short of Whitewright.
Mrs. Sarah K. Webster died Saturday at the home of D.W. Cato, west of town.
Misses Louise Echols and Frances Bryant were entertainers at the Rotary Club Friday.

Oscar Mears brought in the first bale of 1937 cotton Monday night.  It sold for 11-3/4 cents a pound and he received a premium of $22.00
Preston Henderson, route 4, of Battery "A" field artillery has been awarded a gold medal for being the outstanding trainee of the year in his battery at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
Joe Alexander, 21, was injured Tuesday when run over by a tractor at his home, south of town.  His father, E.R. Alexander, was killed in an auto accident on July 20.
Mark Montgomery has bought an interest from Joe Riddle in the Southland Home Ice Co. here.
Miss Blannie Reeves honored her brother, Cull Reeves and G.C. Stuteville with a birthday dinner Friday evening.
J.R. Rutledge, 72, died Wednesday.
