Wallen of Van Alstyne pose outside her family's once-proud home, which
was built in 1879. The homesite, purchased by her uncle in 1869,
adjoins the Wallens' inherited property, which qualified them for
honors under the Texas Land Heritage Program. Sturdy bois d 'arc posts
