HOW THE TAXES ARE DISTRIBUTED
Those of us who paya taxes for the maintenance and support of the city government of Van Alstyne, and others, as well, will be interested in a chart being shown at the City Drug store, which illustrated the approximagte ratios in which every dollar collected for taxes is spent.  Eliminating the fractions of a cent, in round numbers the chart shows the following:

Streets5c
General Fune17c
Sewers15c
Waterworks Bonds13c
School50c

The figures are self-explanatory.  The 5 cents for streets is utilized for the grading and filling in of the streets, and other necessary repairs.  The money of the general fund is used to pay salaries of all city officials, including the $1.00 per year paid the commissioners, to maintain the fire fighting equipment and pay for same, and to cover practically all of the purely incidental expenses.
As the titles imply the sewer, waterworks and school taxes go directly into the funds as they are designated and are used solely for the purposes shown.
It should be explained that this does not represent the distribution on the basis of the city tax rate, but on the basis of every one dollar of taxes paid into the city's coffers.
