William Jefferson Walsh and Mary Emiline Dillingham Key Walsh built the boarding house at 315 South Crockett in Sherman,
Texas in 1903. It was a fashionable place to go for dinner after church on Sunday.  I believe Mr. Walsh was often out at the farm outside of town taking care of that business.

Their daughter, Martha Jane Walsh Flemming 'Mattie' lived there with her husband Hilmar H. Flemming from 1925. Mattie was a painter and talented musician. Mattie taught Sunday School, wrote a column "Musical Sherman" for the Sherman Democrat, and was a graduate of Kidd Key Conservatory, also known as the North Texas Womens College which later became part of Southern Methodist University.

The home remained in the family until the Fall of 1979.

Mattie's older half sister Lenora Key Weems 'Nora' was the widow of Havey Lyles Weems. Nora returned to the boarding house
at 315 South Crockett to live after the death of her husband Harvey from an appendicitis in 1906.  Harvey ran a hardward store in Sherman.  Nora lived therewith her two young daughters Annie Lou Weems (Hurley) born 1903 and Mary Weems (Elam) born 1899.  Nora returned to school at the University of Illinois to get a Masters in Library Science.  She ran the Sherman Town Library for 30 years till her retirement.  The library benefitted from a grant.
