Knight Furniture

J.B. Knight opened his furniture store in 1912.
Mules and wagons, as seen here, were used for delivery service.
The location was on the same as it is today.

J.B. Knight was just 19 years old when he moved to Sherman from Tyler with $1,000.  He used that money to open Knight Furniture Company on Houston Street in 1912.   The store had a 25-foot front and sold mostly used furniture in 1915.  Knight's moved to the south side of the square, a location it still inhabits today.  Knight's is the oldest existing retail establishment in downtown Sherman.
The store burned in 1931, but was rebuilt on the same site.  In 1970 an expansion made it into the largest furniture store between Oklahoma City and Dallas.  The store still in family hands, now encompasses three quarters of the block on the south side of the square.
