CENTENNIAL PLANS PROGRESS
Judges for the beard contest, with 3 trophies to be awarded, are Cadar Perkins, J.C. Waller, and W.E. Yonce.  Tropies will be presented for the "Best beard", "Sorriest Beard" and "Peach fuzz"
Queens, a Senior Queen and Junior Miss, will be named on Monday night, September 25, based on the amount of doantions received for a color television set to be awarded during the week.  Queen committee members are Mary Lankford and Glenda Baker.  Queens will receive crowns plus a $20 gift certificate redeemable at any Howe business, and all contestants will be presented a Certificate of Participation, and flowers.
Old Fashioned dress contest will be held Thursday, with four trophies to be awarded to the best dressed woman, man, boy and girl and couple.  Under and over age is 16 years, with a $1.00 entry fee.
A domino tournament, preceded by a Chamber sponsored free watermelon feast scheduled at the school grounds and the tournament in the grade school gym, E.F. Arterbury will be in charge of the domino event, with George Baker, Bob Jensen and Dwain Roberts heading the watermelon event.
Thursday events include a square dance, with committee of George Barnes and Janet Hawkins.
Friday, designated Homecoming, will feature a football game between Howe and Allen...
Saturday will be the big day, when the downtown area will be closed to traffic to make room for sales, displays, etc. including an art show, antique show, cooking contest display, sewing contest display, FHS dress review, bargain day sales, and others.
Beginning at 1 o'clock an ex-students reception will be held at the grade school, with James Davis, J.C. Waller, J.D. Finney, Bob Smith, Don Adams and wifes as committee members.
Saturday night, Chamber President Ray Houston will serve as Master of Ceremonies for introduction of Queens, oldest man and woman of Howe, oldest married couple, beard contest winners, dress contest winners, domino tourney winners, cooking and sewing winners, and will announce the winner of the color TV set, Howe's "Outstanding Citizen" named by ballot voting by Howe residents, will be named, with Charles Parkman, TP&L Manager, as Chairman.
Concluding the week will be a womanless wedding with Carrie Waller as Chairman.
...Concessions with Ray Bledsoe in charge, which will be open during all events with the exception of the football game.
Antique show will be in charge of Mrs. L.H. Linker,,,,
Firemen originally scheduled a professional wrestling match Saturday night, September 23, but plans were indefinite earlier this week.
A Band from Dallas, headed by former resident, Jerry Foster, will be sponsored by the Fire Department on Monday night, following crowning of the Centennial queens.
Centennial buttons, shaving permits, and "Brothers of the Brush" buttons, hats, dresses, ties and other Centennial equipment are available from committee members, and/or Chamber members.
