The public park on MLK Drive in Denison has a mural created by local artist to honor Dr. Martin Luther King.  The mural is a free-standing mural, 10x10 feet.  The mural was completed in December 2018.  While focusing on Dr. King, the mural highlights his accomplishments and awards, such as the The Medal of Freedom and the Nobel Peace Prize.  The mural was unveiled in March 2018 during Black History Month. This plaque is dedicated to the Black Chamber of Commerce, who graciously donated this property for public use.  The City of Denison is eternally thankful to the Chamber and for all their years of dedication and hard work.  May those who invested their priceless time and effort in building our community never be forgotten.

The subjects of this panel represent people who participated in a Freedom March and some of the signs that were displayed during the Civil Rights Movement.  In the forefront is the famous landmark in Washington, D.C. - The Washington Monument built to commemorate George Washington, the first President of the United States.


1.5" miniature Bronze Medal
A duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded posthumously in 2004 to Dr. King and his wife in recognition of the many contributions to the Nation on behalf of the Civil Rights Movement.
