KENTUCKY WHISKY DEPOT
The Pioneer Liquor Store

Throughout this entire section of country there is probably no better known business firm that that of Eppstein Bros.
This firm came to Denison, February 22nd, 1872, and have grown with its growth...."  Determining the immediate wants of the new city and the surrounding vicinity, they opened the Kentucky Whisky Depot at No. 41 Main Street (The Denison Daily News, May 23, 1873) to supply the demand for their liquors east, west and as far south as McKinney.  The country merchants within a radius of 100 miles almost exclusively patronized the growing business.  Kentucky whiskies were the specialty of the house, but they also dealt in a large variety of imported brandies, California wines, other liquors, cigars and tobaccos.
The Eppstein Bros. opened their business in the building on the north side of Main street, between Austin and Rusk avenues.

In 1873 they expanded their business by establishing a branch of the Denison house at Rockdale, Milam County, east of the capital city of Austin, which was operated by one of the brothers.  The proceeds from the business for 1875 was about $100,000.
