FIRE LOSS AT CANAAN GIN
Fire did damage to the probable amount of $3000 at the Vaughn & White gin at Cannan last Saturday.  Seed cotton in the cotton house caught fire in some  unknown manner and spread almost instantaneously to a pile of approximately 187,000 pounds on the outside of the house.  More than $30,000 worth of cotton was on fire and its total destruction seriously threatened.  This is one of the best equipped ginning plants in the state and happily was prepared with ample water supply and efficient facilities for fighting fire.  These facilities were used with rapidity and good judgment and the blaze finally brought under control, with loss roughly estimated around $3000.

LATER
On Monday night following the blaze Saturday night, the smoldering fire in the cotton house broke out afresh, and got beyond control of the watchmen on guard.  The building and cotton contained therein was almost a total loss, approximating 120 bales of unginned cotton valued at around $20,000.  The cotton was insured and adjusters are now trying to arrive at a correct statement of the loss.
