George Aylett Hodges

George Aylett Hodges, b December 14,1838 in Conecuh County, Alabama, d October 6, 1909 in Falls County, Texas - a son of Homer Virgil and Jane Elizabeth (Dean) Hodges - served in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War in Company D of Hoods 4th Texas Brigade. He married ca 1866 to Rebecca Senter, b April 30, 1848 in Tennessee, d December 9,1928 in Falls County, Texas. George A. had travelled from Alabama to Texas to visit his great uncle, Churchill Jones, and was in Texas when the Civil War began. While with Hoods 4th Brigade, he met Rebecca in Morristown, Tennessee where he was stationed to guard some mills important to the Confederacy. Rebecca Senter's father served as a Member of Congress when Texas was admitted to the Union, and spoke in favor of the annexation. Her brother, Dewitt Clinton Senter, was later Governor of the State of Tennessee. They married soon after the end of the Civil War, and George Aylett Hodges brought his bride back to Falls County, Texas, settled in Lott, where he published a newspaper.

George A. and Rebecca (Senter) Hodges had five children:

Alice M. Hodges, b August 2, 1868 in Falls County, Texas, d April 21, 1960, married Thomas Franklin Glass, b February 12, 1860 in Alabama, d October 10,1926 in Falls County, Texas.

George Aylett Hodges, Jr., married and had at least two sons, Charles Hodges and George Aylett Hodges, III.

Harriett ("Hattie") Hodges, married Mr. Stricker, and had two sons and two daughters.

Annie Hodges, b April 21, 1875, d October 30, 1946, married Hervey R. Seward, b January 29, 1863, d January 15, 1944.

Pearl Hodges, b January 8, 1879, d March 10, 1970, married Edgar Isaacs, b November 5, 1878, d April 30, 1963 and both buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott, Texas - reported to have had three children: Edgar, Jr., Alice who married Mr. Maffett, and Jane who married Mr. Dean.
