Frank Glass

Frank Glass, b April 10, 1849 in Prussia, d February 20, 1929 in Rosebud, Falls County, Texas and buried in Barclay Cemetery in Falls County - was a son of Hugo and Maria (Fiedig) Glass, who immigrated to the United States when Frank was four years old, settling in Texas. On November 11, 1877 in Frelsburg, Colorado County, Texas, Frank Glass married Elizabeth Schneider, b December 18, 1855 in Frelsburg, Colorado County, Texas, d May 3, 1930 and buried by her husband - a daughter of Bernard H. and Anna Clara (Kasberg) Schneider.

Frank and Elizabeth came to the Westphalia area of West Falls County, Texas in 1875 and settled on a farm south of Westphalia. They had received the land through a grant from the governor of Texas. Frank and Elizabeth were active in their community and church activities, and Frank - a talented wood worker and carpenter - helped to construct the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia. The Frank Glass family donated the main altar in the present church building in Westphalia.

Frank and Elizabeth (Schneider) Glass were the parents of eight children - five sons and three daughters:

Ida Elizabeth Glass, b May 8, 1879, d December 27, 1938 - married Valentine Neumann.

Phillomena Glass, b February 19, 1880, d December 24, 1921- did not marry.

Clara Anna Glass, b May 24, 1882, d August 22, 1921- did not marry.

Arnold Frank Glass - a twin - b December 6, 1886, d September 11, 1927 - did not marry.

Frank Arnold - a twin - b December 6, 1886, died in 1900 - did not live to adulthood.

Hugo Bernard Glass, b May 5, 1887, d February 6, 1981 - married June 30, 1926 to Hester Virginia Crump, b March 31, 1907.

Edwin Glass, b May 8, 1891 - married Hilda Linderman.

Otto Glass, b February 24, 1894, d January 5, 1983 - married Lydia Koch.

Ida E. (Glass) Neumann, Arnold Frank Glass, Phillomena M. Glass, and Clara Anna Glass are all buried in Barclay Cemetery by their parents.

In 1901, Frank Glass moved his family to Knox County, Texas, where they remained one year, and then moved to Ballinger, Texas, where they farmed. Frank and Elizabeth returned to Rosebud, Falls County, Texas in 1928.
