Byron Campbell Courtney

Byron Campbell Courtney, b April 1884, d 1968- was a son of James Lafayette and Mary Ellen (Barron) Courtney. He married ca 1909 to Robbie Dacus, b December 4,1891, d January 10, 1979 and buried in Blevins Cemetery. The couple lived with his parents until they rented some land from his father and built a house nearby. They had four children:

Mae Courtney, b in December 1910 three months after the grandmother's death, in her grandfather's - married a Mr. Thompson.

Byron Campbell Courtney, Jr., b ca 1912 - now resides in Waco, McLennan County, Texas.

Naomi Courtney - no further information. Theresa Laverne Courtney, b January 29, 1919, d May 29, 1927 and buried in Blevins Cemetery, Falls County, Texas.

Robbie became mentally ill after her children were born. Her father-in-law, James Lafayette Courtney, took her to every hospital in the area, but was advised there was no hope of her recovery. He offered to build an extra room on his to care for her, but Byron thought it would be too hard on the children, and she was sent to Wichita Falls State Mental Hospital, where she remained the rest of her life - about fifty years before her death. Robbie was buried in Blevins Cemetery by her husband. James Lafayette Courtney was very fond of his daughter-in-law, and her mental illness was the second crisis (the first being his own wife's death) that he could not solve, or make "come out right."
