George Hardeman Carter

George Hardeman Carter, b September 25, 1875, d November 13, 1951 - was a son of Henry Gray and Cleopatra (Williams) Carter, natives of Vermont and Kentucky, respectively. He married in Coleman County, Texas on April 15, 1903 to Olivia Shaw, b 1882, d March 26, 1981 - a daughter of Dr. H. D. and
Sarah L. (Breeding) Shaw.

George attended school in Marlin and Transylvania College in Lexington, Kentucky - then spent five years at The University of Texas, graduating in 1897 from the Law School. He returned to Marlin to practice law, and was elected County Attorney in 1902 and again in 1904.

George Hardeman Carter served as a member and president of the Falls County Bar Association, as City Fire Marshall, a member of the Board of Directors of the State Bar, one of the directors of the Marlin Hot Wells Company, president of the Commercial club, and a member of the Marlin Masonic Lodge #152, AF & AM, Order of Elks, Knights of Pythias. George was responsible for naming Easy Street in Marlin, on which the Carter was built. He served in World War I on the Draft Board at Austin, where he got the title, "Colonel".

George Hardeman and Olivia (Shaw) Carter had four children:
George Hardeman Carter, Jr., b May 7, 1904, d May 10, 1984, married Annie Holt and had two sons: George Hardeman Carter III - unmarried, and Jack Holt Carter, who married Mary Ebertz and have Kathleen and Kelly Carter.

Albert Shaw Carter, b January 11, 1909, d March 30, 1911.

Robert Gray Carter, married December 7, 1940 to Katherine Ann Landrum - a daughter of John Benjamin and Johnny Lee (Bedell) Landrum, and they had four daughters: Mary Catherine Carter married James S. Chaffin and had two daughters: Catherine Lee and Sara Elizabeth Chaffin; Elizabeth Ann Carter married William M. Dennis, Jr., and they had three children: William Carter Dennis, Mary Katherine Dennis, and Martin Gray Dennis; Nancy Lee Carter married Michael Thomas Mason, and they have four children:
Robert Carter Mason, Lee Landrum Mason, and Katherine Ann Mason, and Gray Mason; and Marjory Jane Carter is unmarried.

Sarah Ann Carter - the last child of George Hardeman and Olivia (Shaw) Carter - married Dr. James Truman Lang, and they have two children; Ray Lang married Sharon Bradley, and had two daughters, Katherine Ann and Angela Bradley, and Ann Carter Lang is unmarried.
