Robert Barton, b November 16, 1794 in Virginia, d December 21, 1848 in Limestone County, Texas - was a son of David Barton I and his wife, Hannah (Hill) Barton - natives of Maryland and Virginia, respectively, who both died in Tennessee. Robert married January 9, 1817 in Rutherford County, Tennessee to Mary ("Polly") Bankhead, b in Tennessee, died 1848 in Limestone County, Texas.

Robert and "Polly" Barton came to Texas about 1837 with their three sons, and a nephew, Richard Albert Barton - a son of Robert's brother, David Barton II - came with them. Both Robert and "Polly" Barton died before the 1850 Census was recorded, but their sons were in the area of Limestone County which became Falls County.

The three sons of Robert and Mary (Bankhead) Barton were:

James B. Barton, b ca 1829 in Tennessee, d ca 1868 - married in 1850 to Elizabeth Marian Church.
