Little Berry Hugh Barton, b February 27, 1819 at Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, d January 11, 1896 in Falls County, Texas and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin - was the fifth son of David and Sarah (Borum) Barton II - natives of Virginia.

On December 31, 1840, L. B. H. married Jane Davis, b ca 1819 in South Carolina, d in January 1852 in Falls County, Texas after the birth of her sixth child, Robert H. Barton. Jane was a daughter of John L. and Elizabeth (Lolla, sic Lawler) Davis, Sr. - natives of South Carolina.

L. B. H. Barton was elected County Clerk of Falls County in 1851, and after the death of his first wife, he issued his own second marriage license on August 16, 1854 to marry Mrs. Susan (McAlpine) King, b November 4,1831, d May 6, 1893 the widow of J. H. King, and a daughter of J. C. and Elizabeth (McDonnel) McAlpine of Alabama, who had moved to Falls County, Texas in 1852.

While still in Alabama, L. B. H. Barton had assumed in 1844, his father's position as Magistrate in Albama, made vacant by the latter's removal to Texas--settling February 7, 1849 within a mile and a half of the present site of Marlin. He served in the Quartermaster's Department of the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, and subsequently commenced farming with his return to Falls County.

By his first wife, Jane (Davis), L. B. H. Barton had six children:
William Albert Barton (called "Albert"), b 1842 in Mississippi, d in Falls County, Texas. He married Susan Hudspeth, and they both died within a month of each other. Their daughter, Mary Anne Barton, lived with her uncle, David A. Barton's family, until she married Tolivar Hale. A son of William Albert and Susan Barton died as an infant, and was buried in the Garrett Cemetery at Stranger. If there were other children, they have not been identified.

Sarah E. Barton, b 1843 in Alabama - married David Frazier of Pennsylvania, a widower who had several children by his first marriage. David and Sarah E. Frazier had five identified children: Martha E., Catherine, Mary Jane, David P., and Sarah F. Frazier.

John Davis Barton, b 1844 in Alabama - died unmarried.

Mary Jane Barton, b 1846 in Alabama - no further information.

David A. Barton, b November 1848 in Alabama, d May 1885 in Falls County, Texas - married Virginia Minerva Cain, b July 1855 in Mississippi, d February 1917 in Falls County, Texas - a daughter of Abel and Virginia (Williams) Cain. David and Virginia were the parents of William D. Barton - who married Carrie Green Booth, and their daughter, Vada, married George Leslie McMichael; Mary Elizabeth Barton - married Henry Clay Vann, and reared their family in Falls County, Texas; Susan ("Sudie") Barton - married John W. Hammer, and moved to Ellis County, Texas; and Berry Barton - married, but no further information.

Robert H. Barton, b 1851, d in the 1880's - was married January 15, 1875 in Falls County, Texas to Mary Ann Sparks. After Robert's death, Mary Ann married secondly to the widower of Nancy Caroline Barton (daughter of Swinfield H. Barton), Augustus Stahl.

By his second marriage to Susan (McAlpine), L. B. H. had six more children:
Thomas Killebrew Barton, b August 20, 1855 in Falls County, Texas, d June 28, 1936 in Marlin - married Mary Estelle Johnson, b June 13, 1861, d August 19, 1936.

Samuel J. Barton, b August 21, 1866, d October 29, 1947 - married first to Margaret King, b November 20, 1873, d February 26, 1905, and had twins that died. He married second to Beatrice Bryden, and had no issue. Sam was in the saddle and saddle-bag business in Marlin.

Cornelia Barton, b ca 1868, married first to James E. King, and married second to a Mr. Hawkins. By her first marriage, Cornelia had five children:
James E. King, Jr.; Conway King, Rosa King, Constance King, and Willie King.

Cora Barton, b ca 1870 - married Albert Sidney Johnson - a son of Samuel Johnson and his second wife, Lucinda (Barganier) Johnson - a daughter of Jesse and Nancy (Salter) Johnson. They were the parents of Samuel Johnson, Susan C. Johnson, Rosalie Johnson, and "Bub" Johnson.

Rosa Lee Barton, b ca 1872 - married A. 0. Graves.

Little Bernie Bedford Barton, b February 10, 1875, d October 29, 1896, and buried in Calvary Cemetery at Marlin.
