Henry Garland Barton

Henry Garland Barton, b March 7, 1913 at McClanahan, Falls County, Texas, d October 5, 1979 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery at Marlin, Texas - was a son of Henry Thomas and Myrtle (Hickman) Barton. He was nicknamed "Sheriff" during his Marlin high school days, and in 1936 he graduated from Texas A&M, where he was Captain of the Aggie Band and Drum Major.

On July 2, 1938, Garland was married to Nell Lois Garrett, b June 6, 1914 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas - a daughter of Edward Guy and Hattie Alma (Varnado) Garrett, Sr., and a graduate of Baylor University.

Garland was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, and served during World War II in the Aleutian Islands and the Pacific Theater until the end of the war - returning with the rank of Major. Nell taught school and worked in a federal office while Garland was in mili-tary service. Garland became Falls County District Clerk, and he served in this capacity until his retirement. He also owned land which he had inherited from his parents, which Nell still owns together with other land she inherited from her Father.

Henry Garland and Nell Lois (Garrett) Barton had two children:
Nelwyn Sue Barton, b December 23, 1941 in Marlin, graduated from Sam Houston University, where she met and married Brian Quinton Honsinger, b October 24, 1940, at Mont Bellview, Texas. They reside in Houston, where their only child, Kenneth Garland Honsinger, was b January 13, 1973.

Thomas Edward Garrett, b January 15, 1948, graduated from Texas A&M in 1970 - married first to Mrs. Roylene (Mitchell) Nichols, who had three children by her former marriage: Jerry, Jimmy, and Angela Nichols. He was employed by a Loan and Credit Corporation for a time, in Waco, Texas; and in 1976, he married second to Mrs. Delores Anita Davis, who had one daughter, Anita Louise Polston, by a first marriage, and three daughters, Lisa, Angela, and Sheila Davis, by a second marriage. Tom now resides on his parents' farm in east Falls County, where he is in the farming and ranching business. He has had no children by either wife.
