Andrew Jackson Ables

Andrew Jackson Ables, b May 22, 1844 in Lincoln County, Tennessee, d 1926 in Oklahoma - was a son of Moses and Rebecca Ables -both natives of Georgia.

Andrew left to go to Alabama, where he enlisted on August 13, 1861 in Company D, 19th Alabama Infantry Regiment, of the Confederate States Army during the Civil War, in which he served as a Teamster.

After the war, on February 1, 1866, Andrew married in Etowab County, Alabama to Icy Ann Simmons, b ca 1848 in Alabama, d 1928 in Oklahoma - a daughter of William and Lucretia (Dunn) Simmons. Four children were born before the family left Alabama for Texas - traveling through Comanche, McLennan, Hunt, and Collins Counties and reaching the Westphalia area of Falls County in the 1890's where they settled and farmed. When the 1900 land rush started in Oklahoma, Andrew and Icy left several married children in Falls County, and moved to Indian Territory (Oklahoma), where they both died. They were the parents of twelve children - including a pair of twins:

Mary Jane Ables, b December 19, 1869 in Alabama - married Will Warrock, founder of "The Rosebud News".

Sarah Ann Ables, b December 19, 1870 in Alabama - married a Mr. Holt, and died at Haskell, Texas.

James Thomas Ables, b March 2, 1872 in Alabama.

Lula Lucretia Ables, b August 27, 1874 in Comanche County, Texas - married James Meredith Wright in Falls County.

James A. Ables, b January 22, 1877 in McLennan County, Texas.

Joseph Edward Ables, b May 15, 1879 in Hunt County, Texas.

Robert Lee Ables, b February 8, 1881 in Collins County, Texas.

Andrew Jackson Ables, II, b March 6, 1883 in Collins County, Texas.

George W. Ables, b May 14, 1885 in Collins County, Texas.

Leonard Ables - a Twin, b March 24, 1891 in Collins County, Texas.

Leota Ables -- a Twin, b March 24, 1891 in Collins County, Texas - married a Mr. Grafa, and died in Denton, Texas.

The children of Andrew Jackson and Icy Ann (Simmons) Abels who remained in Falls County, Texas were William who died in Rosebud; Lula Lucretia (Ables) Wright of Lott, Texas; and Mary Jane (Ables) Warrock, of Rosebud, Texas.
