     THORNTON -- Jesse C. “J. C.” Walts, 81 passed away April 9, 2002, in Waco.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Thornton.  Burial will be at Criswell Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
     
     He was born on Oct. 5, 1920, in Thornton.  He worked as street supervisor for the City of Waco for 33 years, retiring to Lake Limestone in 1982.  He served in the Pacific during World War II in the Navy.  He was a member of Lake Limestone Baptist Church.
     
     Mr. Walts was preceded in death by his wife, Elenora Lee Walts in 1996 and by a son-in-law, E. C. Roderick in 1994.
    
     Survivors include his children, Gracie Roderick of Clinton, Me., Jessie Young of Waco, James Walts and wife, Mary of Lowell, Ark., Michael Walts and wife, Stephanie of Bellmead, Deborah Robinson and husband, Sam of Navasota and Kenneth Walts and wife, Shelia of China Spring; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Olene Smith of Waco.
     
     Pallbearers will be Jimmy Queener, John Ellis, Troy Ellis, Roger Broxton, Toby Culverhouse, Kenneth Day Ellis, Gary Broxton and Doyle Broxton.
