Details of Traffic Death

Learned Here

Details of the traffic death of Louis Wesley Williams, 78, of Huntsville, formerly of Marlin, on Feb. 7, near Willis in Montgomery County, have been learned in Marlin.

The car he was driving was struck from the rear by a pipe company truck. Mr. Williams, an employee of the Montgomery County Tax Collector’s office, was pronounced dead at the scene when his body was taken from the wreckage of the two vehicles about two hours after the crash.

The impact of the crash pushed the passenger car driven by Mr. Williams off the shoulder of Interstate 45 into the mouth of a large concrete culvert. The body of the semi-tractor trailer truck, with its load of pipe, slammed down on top of Williams’ car.

The truck driver told police that he saw the slow-moving passenger car in front of him when he topped the hill, and forcefully applied his brakes. However, he said he was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. The truck driver was not hurt.

Williams commuted from Huntsville to Conroe. He was at one time Falls County clerk and tax assessor-collector at Marlin, and had done tax work in private business at Huntsville. He was a native of Bruceville, but had lived in Walker County for the past 25 years. Louis Wesley was born July 10, 1888 and he passed away February 7, 1967.

Funeral services and burial were conducted at Oakwood Cemetery, Adickes Addition, Huntsville, Walker County, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jane Williams of Huntsville; four sons, Louis of Houston, Frank of Huntsville, Charles of Conroe, and Quinn of New Orleans; one daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Austin of Bryan; and one sister, Mrs. C. M. Clark of Waco.
