PROMINENT CHILTON
CITIZEN IS DEAD

 

     Jefferson Davis Williams, age 94, died suddenly at his Chilton at 4 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 1955. He was fatally stricken and death followed quickly. His nephew, Charlie Williams, was with him at the time of his death.

 

     Mr. Williams was born at Waterloo, Alabama on May 5, 1860. He was married there and the couple came to Texas and first settled in the Bruceville area and for more than 50 years the Williams' has been at Chilton. Mrs. Williams' death occurred on September 15, 1953. Mr. Williams engaged in farming activities in earlier years.

 

     He was prominent in the Chilton community as a civic leader. In prior years, he had been a member of the Chilton School Board for a long time. For more than half a century, he had served continuously as an election official for the Chilton precinct and in recent months he had asked the court to relieve him of these responsibilities. In early days, he had served a while as constable at Chilton. He was an active Masonic Lodge member and served in all officer capacities in the Chilton lodge.

 

     Funeral services at 3 p.m. Friday, from the First Methodist Church at Chilton with Rev. Walter Armstrong officiating. Burial in the Chilton cemetery, members of the Masonic Lodge having charge of the graveside services. Adams Funeral is in charge of arrangements.

 

     He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. C. M. Clark of Waco. A brother, Charles Williams in Arizona. Two step-sons, Louis Williams, Houston, and Charlie Williams, Chilton. Also two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
