Eliza Marshall (Slater) Scruggs

Marlin, Texas, June 7. -- A gloom has been cast over our little town by the death of Mrs. E. M. Scruggs, wife of Mr. Jesse Scruggs, our esteemed county treasurer, which occurred last night.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church this afternoon, of which she was a member.

The house was filled to overflowing by her many friends and relatives.

After the services were over the remains were conveyed to the graveyard and interred.

It commenced raining, but the majority in attendance attended the last sad rites. Mr. Scruggs and relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire neighborhood.

Note: Eliza was born on May 8, 1832 James G. & Jane Slater. She married Jesse Scruggs on February 4, 1852, and is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls Co., Texas
