Ewald W. Schaake

 

     EDDY – Ewald W. Schaake, 89, of Route 1, Eddy, died Friday morning at a Waco hospital.

 

     Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Cego, the Rev. Frank Horack Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Cego Cemetery.

 

     Mr. Schaake was born May 20, 1898, near Walburg in Williamson County. He moved to Cego in 1921. He married Martha F. Miller on Jan. 24, 1924. They operated a drugstore in Cego for many years and later owned and operated a grocery business in Cego. He was in business for more than 50 years before retiring in 1972.

 

     He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where he was on the church council for many years and was chairman of the church cemetery association. He was president and one of the original board members of the Cego-Durango Water Corp.

 

     Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roland Schaake of Cego and Kenneth Schaake of San Antonio; a brother, Walter Schaake of Stamford; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Freida) Knipling of Sagerton and Miss Erna Schaake of Stamford; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 

     The family will be at the Roland Schaake residence in Cego.

 

     The family has designated the Cego Cemetery Association or St. Paul’s United Church of Christ for memorials.
