     Simmie Stone of Mart, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Mart.  Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Littlepage Funeral Home.  Rev. Ron Curtis officiated.  Burial followed at Criswell Cemetery.

     Simmie was born March 5, 1939, in Groesbeck, the daughter of Rufe and Verona Berry.  She graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1957 and married George Stone on June 8th of that year.  Having lived in Mart since 1960, the Stones operated Stone Insurance Agency for 21 years before Simmie’s health forced her to retire.  She was an avid golfer.
     
     Simmie’s father Rufe preceded her in death.

     She is survived by her loving husband, George, of Mart; her children, Lana Jean Stone of Austin, George Kendall Stone and his wife Susan of West and David Handley Stone of Dallas; two lovely grandchildren, Grace Eleanor Stone and George Samuel Stone of West; her mother, Verona Johnston of Waco; her stepmother, Bobbie Berry of Groesbeck; her brother, Roger Berry and his wife Cindy of Mexia; her sister, Lesa Gail Jackson and her husband Bill of Thornton; and her three nieces.
