Col. Lee Stewart, USA Ret.

 

                  

     TEMPLE - Services for Lee L. Stewart, 82, of  Temple, will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Harper-Talasek Funeral in Temple. Dr. Jeff Cramer and the Reverend David W. Alwine will be officiating. Entombment will be in Bellwood Memorial Park.

 

     Colonel Lee L. Stewart, USA Ret. died Thursday, June 8, in a Temple hospital.

 

     Lee was born in Cego, Texas, in 1918. He attended Texas A&M University, where he received a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Agronomy. He was also a member of the Corps. In 1941, he married Theda (Val) Maples of Haskell, Texas. In November of 1940, he was called to active duty for the U. S. Army and served for 29 years, serving in WWII, the Korean War, the Adjutant General’s Office at the Pentagon, and several tours overseas.

 

     Awards and decorations received during his military career include: Legion of Merit; Bronze Star with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Commendation Medal; American Defense Service Medal;  American Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal, with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Korean Service Medal, with 1 Silver Star (5 campaigns); United Nations Service Medal; Army Occupation Medal (Japan-Germany) and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

 

     Lee was a member of  the Temple A&M Club, General Society of the War of 1812, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Sons of the American Revolution, Texas Retired Officers Association, A&M Century Club, the Bell County Sheriff’s Posse and Christ Episcopal Church.

 

     Survivors are his wife, Theda (Val) Stewart of Temple; daughter, Jo Ann Muir and her husband Darryl Muir of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Alma Hale of Waco, Texas; granddaughter, Melissa Krewson and her husband Doug Krewson of Tempe, Arizona; grandson Patrick Muir and his wife Melissa Muir of Tempe, Arizona; a great-grandson, Matthew Krewson; and Roy Wright and his wife Bessie.
