Elva Jo Stewart

 

     Services for Elva Jo Stewart, 71, of Temple will be at 2 p.m. today at Christ Episcopal Church in Temple with the Rev. Joseph DiPaolo officiating.

 

     Burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park.

 

     She died Saturday in an Austin hospital.

 

     Mrs. Stewart was born in Kingsville and married W. Todd Stewart on Dec. 24, 1941, in San Antonio. She was a staff member at Scott and White School of Nursing for seven years.

 

     Her community activities in Temple included Bluebonnet Council of Girl Scouts of America, 20 years; Spade and Shovel Garden Club, 20 years; Bell County Rehabilitation Center board of directors, 17 years; American Cancer Society, 15 years; and the Cultural Activities Center board of directors, two years.

 

     She also served as chairman of the Bell County Easter Seals for two years, president of Friends of Temple Public Library and chairman of the historical division of the Temple Bicentennial Commission. She was a member of City Federation of Women’s Clubs and Altrusa Club of Temple. In 1974, she was named Outstanding Citizen of Temple by the Temple Jaycees.

 

     Survivors are one daughter, Judith Ann Stewart of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Martha) McGarraugh of San Antonio; and one granddaughter.

 

     The family requests that memorials be made to Christ Episcopal Church.

 

     Harper-Talasek Funeral of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
