-----

Mattie Gray, a negro woman, is dead as the result of carelessness in handling kerosene oil close to fire.  The woman was filling a lamp Thursday night while the wick was burning.  The flame communicated to the oil, an explosion followed and the woman received burns about the limbs from which she died Friday night.
The fire was extinguished before any damage to the premises resulted.
