W. H. GATES DIES
IN TEXAS

       William Henry Gates, a former resident of Clarke County, died at his home, 1303 James Avenue, Waco, Texas, Thursday evening, February 19, at the age of 69.

       Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, February 23, in Connally Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Wellborn, assisted by the Rev. C. E. Poe.  Burial was in Rosemound Cemetery, with the Chilton Masonic Lodge in charge of the graveside services.

       Pall bearers were Travis Neely, Fred Litzman, J. M. Burns, Marvin Lewellen, Robert Geolzer and D. D. Boone.  Honorary pallbearers were members of the Spencer Sunday School Class of the 7th and James Baptist Church.

       Mr. Gates was born June 5, 1883, at the Harde Harrison place near Choctaw Corner, moving to Scyrene when he was two years old.  He moved to Chilton, Texas, when a young man, where he married Miss Minnie Cooley.  He was employed by Humble Oil Company for 28 years, retiring several years ago.

       Survivors include his widow; 2 sons, J. W. Gates, Herne, Texas, and C. E. Gates, Baytown, Texas; 2 daughters, Mrs. R. L. Mitchel, Waco, Texas, and Mrs. John Garner, Hagerman, New Mexico; two brothers, E. G. Gates, Thomasville, and J. Katon Gates, Scyrene; 2 sisters, Mrs. Sarah Poole and Mrs. Alice Stuckey, Scyrene.  He is also survived by five grandchlldren adn a number of nieces and nephews.

       A number of relatives from Clarke County attended the funeral in Waco.

W. H. GATES DIES
IN WACO HOME


       W. H. Gates passed away at his in Waco last Thursday at 8: 40 p. m. at the age of 69 years.  He was the father of J. W. Gates of Hearne.

       Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. in Connally Chapel, Waco, with the Rev. Charles Wellborn officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. E. Poe.  Interment followed in Rosemound Cemetery with Chilton Masonic Lodge in charge of graveside services.

       Active pallbearers were: Travis Neeley, Fred Litzman, J. M. Burns, Marvin Lewellen, Robert Geolzer and S. D. Boon.  Honorary pallbearers were members of Spencer Sunday School class of Seventh and James Baptist Church.

       He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Minnie Gates of Waco; two sons, J. W. Gates of Hearne and E. E. Gates of Baytown; two daughters, Mrs. R. L. Mitchell of Waco and Mrs. John Garner of Hagarman, N. W.; two brothers, E. G. Gates and J. K. Gates both of Alabama; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Poole and Mrs. Allie Stuckey both of Alabama, and three grandchildren.
