RITES SATURDAY

       Funeral services for John Wilson Gates of Hearne were held from Grace Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, with the Rev. R. W. Hillenkamp officiating.

       Interment was in Rockdale Cemetery with Heartfield Funeral in charge of arrangements.  Pallbearers were H. B. Scott, R. E. Dewvall, T. O. Wilkins, Joe Gallagher, Jr., David Perkins and Lee Cobb.

       Mr. Gates succumbed to a heart seizure at his Hearne Thursday night, May 4.  He was born September 20, 1912 in Chilton and was 59 years, seven months and 14 days of age.

       Mr. Gates had been a resident of Hearne for 20 years.  A retired employee of Humble Pipe Line Company, he had worked for the water department of the City of Hearne in recent years.  Mr. Gates was a member of Grace Methodist Church and Golden Rule Masonic Lodge.

       He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Hearne; one son, Kenneth Gates of Waco; a daughter, Mrs. Vermel Bland of Rockdale; four grandchildren; one brother, Charles E. Gates of Baytown; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Mitchell of Waco and Mrs. Jewel Garner of Hagerman, New Mexico.

RITES TODAY

       John Wilson Gates, 59, of Hearne died Thursday night at his home. He is the father of a Waco resident.

       Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Grace Methodist Church in Hearne with burial in Rockdale Cemetery.

       Mr. Gates was born in Chilton.  He had lived in Hearne about 20 years.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

       He worked for the water department.  He was retired from Humble Oil do.

       He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Gates; one son, Kenneth W. Gates of 4213 Sanger; one daughter, Mrs. S. C. (Vernel) Bland of Rockdale; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Mitchell of 1301 James and Mrs. Jewel Garner of Hagerman, N.M.; one brother, Charles E. Gates of Baytown; and four grandchildren.
