A Negro Incinerated
~~~~~
    Bristow Gamble, an aged negro living alone on the Brazos river near the old Peyton store road was burned to death in his cabin some time Sunday night.
    The darkey was 75 or 80 years of age and had subsisted for a long while by catching fish from the river and selling them.
    He had constructed himself a "shack" by standing "puncheons" up in end and covering same with canvas.
    Monday morning some other negroes who were passing along that way found the shack burned down and the charred remains of the old darkey in them.
    The supposition is that he had a fire inside and falling to sleep the flames were communicated to the canvas roofing with the result as stated.
