T. E. Flowers To Be
Buried Friday At
Cox Cemetery

 

     Funeral services for Thomas Edward Flowers, citizen of this territory for the past 36 years, will be held from the Green's Funeral at 9:30 a.m., Friday, December 13, 1946. Rev. C. A. Baskin and Rev. Koenig of Travis will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cox cemetery at Bruceville, Texas, with Green's of Rosebud in charge. Mr. Flowers passed away at 3 a.m., Thursday morning at the local hospital.

 

     Pallbearers will be Cecil Cone, Levi Pratt, Bill Adams, Wm. Cone, R. E. Menefee and Grady Wright.

 

     Mr. Flowers was born May 24, 1877 in Scott county, Mississippi. He came to Texas with his parents at the age of six years, settling near Bruceville, Texas. He married Miss Coma Flowers on January 5, 1910. They reared their family of three sons and a daughter in this territory.

 

     Surviving him is his wife, two sons, Hal of Rosebud and Bill of Fort Worth, and a daughter, Mary Frances of John Tarleton College of Stephenville, Texas. Their third son, Richard, had gone to Caviteas as a consulting engineer before the war, and was captured at Corrigedor when it fell to the Japanese. He remained a prisoner of war of the Japanese until October 24, 1942, when he lost his life when a prison boat, in which he was being transferred, was sunk.

 

     Three brothers, Felix A. Flowers of Eddy, R. W. Flowers of Temple, and James F. Flowers of Dallas, and three sisters, Mrs. Mable Bonvillian of Houston, Mrs. Imogene Duffey and Mrs. Katherine McElroy of San Antonio also survive him.
