JOHN ERSKINE
DIES AT AGE 79,
RITES SUNDAY


John C. Erskine, 79, of Otto, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, in a local hospital.  He had suffered a stroke on February 29.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. A. A. Bratcher, pastor of Trinity Memorial Baptist Church.  Rev. T. H. Burton, retired Baptist minister of Mart, who performed the wedding ceremony of Mr. and Mrs. Erskine January 28, 1915, will assist.  Burial will be in Criswell Cemetery.
Mr. Erskine was born March 9, 1885, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Erskine, a pioneer family of Falls County.  He was married to Miss Della Criswell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Criswell, also a pioneer family.  Mr. and Mrs. Erskine resided in the Criswell Community most of their married life.  He engaged in farming and livestock raising.  The homeplace at Criswell had belonged to Mrs. Erskine's father and before that to her grandfather, William Criswell.  Mr. Erskine was member of the Ben Hur Baptist Church.  He had served for nine years on the Board of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.
Surviving are his widow; two brothers, Clinton Erskine of Odds and Melvin M. Erskine of Bryan; also a number of nieces and nephews.
