John C. Criswell

 

    John C. Criswell, 75, formerly of Marlin, died in a nursing center at Grand Prairie Tuesday.

    Services were held at Fairview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie Wednesday with burial at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

    Mr. Criswell was born in the Criswell community of Falls County Aug. 27, 1912.  He attended Marlin public schools and Baylor University.  He had lived in Grand Prairie since 1945 and was employed by Southwestern Laboratories in Dallas for 29 years when he retired in 1974.

    Mr. Criswell was an active member and deacon of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as vice chairman of the body of deacons, was general secretary of Sunday School and training union and other positions of responsibility.

    Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Dickson) Criswell, formerly of Mart; two daughters, Mary Nell Canter of Kerrville and Bettye Jane Wiley of Grand Prairie; four brothers, Travis Criswell of Temple, Glenn Criswell of Albuquerque, N. M.; Ray Criswell of Bryan, Thomas Criswell of Marlin; and four grandchildren.  A sister, Myrtlene (Tate), preceded him in death.

    The family has designated the Diabetes Foundation or Parkinsonism Society for memorials.

    Pallbearers were nephews:  Ray Criswell, Jr.; Tom Criswell II, Jerry Johnson, Mac Criswell, Tommy Tate and Fred Koenig.  Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Fairview Baptist Church.
