Note: Even though she was married to James "Red" Cook at the time of her death, Ms. Averil was also the second wife of Dr. J. E. Martin of Cego/Eddy.  Our family always thought so much of her. rlh

Averil Cook

 

     Mrs. James (Averil) Cook, 86, of Eddy died Thursday afternoon in a Moody nursing home.

 

     Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Eddy Baptist Church. Burial will be in Eddy Cemetery.

 

     The body will be at the of her son, Hollis Martin of Eddy, Friday afternoon.

 

     Mrs. Cook was born in Cego and moved to Eddy in 1927. In 1915, she married Dr. J. E. Martin, who died in 1942. She married James A. Cook in 1948. She was assistant to the postmaster in Eddy during and after World War II, and she played organ at Eddy Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

 

     Survivors are her husband; two other sons, Kenneth Martin of Austin and Jack Martin of DeSoto; a stepson, James A. Cook Jr. of Eddy; a stepdaughter, Mrs. San Anderson of Big Spring; a brother, CullenW. Shotwell of Bellmead; a sister, Bernice Schuh of Waco; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

 

     Cole Funeral of Moody is in charge.
