Albert “Al” Folsome Cobb, Jr.

 

     Albert "Al" Folsome Cobb Jr. passed away January 13, 2006. He was born in Marlin, Texas January 27, 1921 to Albert and Mary Cobb. He graduated from Calvert High School in Calvert, Texas in 1938. He served as a Petty Officer, Second Class in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. Al received his B.S. degree from Southwestern University in 1943 and his Masters degree from the University of Texas in 1952. Al married Clara Louise Wieland Boyd on December 27,1948, the same year he began coaching in Three Rivers, Texas. Al was high school principal for Three Rivers from 1957 until 1965 when he became Superintendent of Schools. He served as Superintendent until his retirement in 1983.

     Al was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Martha Boyd Chamberlain, Brother, Ben Cobb, Brother, Paul Boyd, Step-brother Alton Neal, twin brother Sam Cobb, grandson Jay Boyd and his wife of 51 years Clara Wieland.
    

     Al is survived by his children, Jim and Bettie Boyd of Boerne, Texas Donna and Dave Lockwood of Kingwood, Texas, Tim and Sharon Cobb of George West, Texas, and Tammye Sugarek of Kingsville, Texas; twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and friend and caregiver Debbie Strait.
    

     Visitation will be held from 5 til 8 p.m., on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Three Rivers High School Auditorium.

     Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, January 16 at the Three Rivers First United Methodist Church.

     Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m., on Monday, January 16, 2006 at Capital Memorial Park in Pflugerville, Texas.

     Memorial Donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
