Mrs. T.A. Cheeves, Sr. is Dead.

Funeral Here at 10 a.m. Wednesday

 

Mrs. T.A. Cheeves, Sr., 81, a resident of Marlin for more than half a century died in a Marlin hospital at 8:30 p.m. Monday, September 8th.

 

Mrs. Cheeves was a native of Hempstead, Texas.  She was born there 26 August 1866.

 

She married to T.A. Cheeves in a ceremony at Navasota on February 23, 1894 and came to Marlin to reside.  Her late husband died in Marlin June 11, 1943.  He was prominent here in the mercantile business, as a banker, industrialist and property owner.

 

For several years, Mrs. Cheeves had gone to North Carolina for a summertime visit.  Mrs. Cheeves and Mrs. Dave McKenney went to that state this year and on July 12th Mrs. Cheeves returned to Marlin due to being stricken ill while away on the vacation trip.  She became a hospital patient and later a patient for surgery.

 

Mrs. Cheeves was a talented musician.  During the time she resided in Marlin, she had been active in various social organizations including a ladies group known here at one time as The Social Club of which she was a charter member.

 

The body remains in state at the Adams Funeral until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning when it will be taken to the family home, 719 Capps Street for the funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Reverend F.P. Goddard officiating and assisted by Reverend W.O. Wright.  Burial in Calvary Cemetery.

 

Surviving are one son, T.A. Cheeves, Jr. of Marlin, and one daughter, Mrs. H.B. Broadfoot of New Orleans, Louisiana.  Both were at their mother’s bedside at the time of her death.  There is also one grandson, H.B. Broadfoot, Jr.  Mrs. Cheeves other nearest relative was a first cousin, Judge T.P. Buffington of Anderson, Texas.
